HIGHLIGHTS: Reliever Junichi Tazawa worked two innings for his third win of the season. He struck out 4 and allowed 1 run on 2 hits … Marc Melancon allowed only his second run in 18 appearances … Jose Iglesias missed his fourth straight game as he deals with back stiffness … Lars Anderson went 2 for 4 with a home run, 2 runs and a season-high 5 RBIs. He has hit half of his home runs this year in his last three games. … The win put the PawSox at 17-11 for the month of May, one win more than their 16-9 April … Ryan Lavanway went 3 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs. It was his third 3-hit game of the season.

HIGHLIGHTS: Reynaldo Rodriguez tied a Sea Dogs record with his eighth home run in the month of May. Josh Roskos and Kevin Millar in 1997, John Hattig in 2004 and Ryan Lavarnway in 2011 are the four prior Portland players to accomplish this feat. Rodriguez has eleven games left in the month to make the record his own … The BMets stole two more bases on the day, giving them 7 in the series, all on catcher Matt Spring. On the year the Portland backstop has allowed 29 stolen bases and only thrown out 3 runners … Right fielder Bryce Brentz went 4 for 5 with a double and two runs. He is batting .452 over his last ten games … Despite having a league-high 4.65 team ERA, they have fired 314 strikeouts, good enough for third most in the Eastern League.

It is the first run he has allowed 14 innings of work with Pawtucket … Jose Iglesias went 1 for 4 to extend his hitting streak to six games … Scott Podsednik went 1 for 4 with his first home run of the year. The franchise mark for home runs in May was set by Ryan Lavarnway last season when he hit eight … Jeremy Hazelbaker stole his team-high 7th base of the season. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in a 1/3 of an inning … John Tolisano went 2 for 3 and connected for his first home run of the season and first since August of last year … Catcher Sean Ochinko picked up his first AA hit, a line-drive single up the middle in the ninth inning … Brian Van Kirk went 1 for 4 to extend his hit streak to seven games … The Fisher Cats move to 6-11 in May with the loss.

He is tied for fourth in the Eastern League in steals.

HIGHLIGHTS: Starter Justin Germano had his shortest outing of the season, going only 3 innings after allowing 6 runs on 7 hits and two walks. His ERA jumped from 1.99 to 2.98 … Scott Podsednik went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs, a run and his 2nd stolen base with the PawSox. He has hit safely in six of the seven games since joining Pawtucket … The rehabbing Kevin Youkilis played his second straight game at third base, but was not tested in the field. He went 1 for 4 at the plate with 2 strikeouts … Jose Iglesias went 1 for 4 and is now batting .282 on the season when he was at just .200 heading into the month. He has hit safely in five straight games and has 10 hits in that span … It is the third time this season that the PawSox have dropped 3 or more games in a row.

Game Times and Pitchers for 5/18/12

The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field for a brief three-game homestand against the BMets. Billy Buckner will hit the hill for Portland in his eighth start of the season. He has only faced three teams all season; New Britain twice, Binghamton twice and Trenton three times. Of his prior two outings against the Mets, Buckner has gone 0-1 over 10 innings, allowing 5 runs, 10 hits and 2 walks, with 10 strikeouts.

Ross Ohlendorf gets his eighth start of the year for Pawtucket, in search of his first win since April 21st, which happened to come against the same Durham Bulls that he will face tonight. In that game Ohlendorf scattered 6 hits and a walk for 4 runs over 5 2/3 innings. He will be opposed by Chris Archer, the reigning International League Pitcher of the Week and third-ranked prospect in the Tampa Bay Rays system according to Baseball America.

New Hampshire’s Yohan Pino will be looking to notch his fourth win over his last five starts. He has allowed only 5 runs over his last 26 1/3 innings, striking out 24 in the process. He did not factor into the decision when he started against the Thunder back on May 6th. In that game he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits and a walk.

B.J. Hermsen will get the nod for New Britain in Reading. Fresh off his first win of the year, Hermsen beat these very RPhils last Saturday after allowing 2 runs and 7 hits over 7 innings. He has gone 6 1/3 innings or more in each of his three starts with New Britain since being called up from Ft. Myers.
