HIGHLIGHTS: The PawSox were only able to muster two hits on the night and Allen Webster allowed two runs in the first inning, which was plenty for the IronPigs to grab the win. Webster lasted only 3 2/3 innings after giving up three runs, seven hits and two walks…Craig Breslow came on in the fifth in a rehab stint. He threw 20 pitches, 10 for strikes, getting a ground out and a fly out while walking two batters…Cuban hurler Dalier Hinjosa went 1 2/3 innings in his first work since he defected from his native land in 2013. He allowed a run, a hit and two walks and struck out two… Brock Holt (double) and Garin Cecchini picked up the PawSox hits. They also each picked up one of the team’s two walks on the night.



Portland – 5

Reading – 0

WP: Owens (1-0)

LP: Biddle (0-1)

HIGHLIGHTS: Well, Mookie Betts was the talk of the internet after he led off the game with a solo home run. Then Henry Owens retired 16 straight batters after allowing two first inning walks, the skies opened up, and here we have an Opening Day, rain shortened no-hitter. The lefty threw 86 pitches (59 for strikes) in his six innings of work, allowing just those two walks while striking out nine and forcing four groundouts. It is the third no-hitter in SeaDogs history and first since becoming a Red Sox affiliate in 2003…Meanwhile, all Betts did was go 4-for-4 (IN SIX INNINGS!!) with the homer, an RBI and three runs scored…Deven Marrero, batting second in the lineup, went 2-for-4 with two doubles and 2 RBIs…Blake Swihart and Henry Ramos both went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Swihart had a third inning triple.



Salem – 10

Myrtle Beach – 3

WP: Johnson (1-0)

LP:  Payano (0-1)

HR: SAL – Dent (1)

HIGHLIGHTS: Salem scored their ten runs over the first four innings of the game and cruised to victory in their opener at Myrtle Beach. Ryan Dent lead the offense with a 2-for-5, 5 RBI performance…Brian Johnson struck out seven and yielded one earned run on four hits and two walks. He lasted five innings, facing 21 Pelican batters….Outfielder Jonathan Roof went 1-for-3 with three walks and three runs scored.



Greenville – 3

Kannapolis – 1

WP: Kukuk (1-0)

LP: Dykstra (0-1)

S: Gunkel (1)

HIGHLIGHTS: Cody Kukuk allowed just one run on three hits and four walks, to pick up the Opening Day win. He struck out four and faced 20 batters in his five innings…Jacob Dahlstrand threw three no-hit innings of relief and Joe Gunkel, an NYPL All-Star last year with Lowell, threw a scoreless ninth for the save…Tzu-Wei Lin went 3-for-3, all singles, hitting out of the two hole in the lineup. The shortstop walked one and stole two bases…Tim Roberson, playing in only his tenth career game at first base, went 2-for-4 with a two-run single in the third.





Richmond – 2

New Britain – 10

WP: Dean (1-0)

LP: Blach (0-1)

HR: RIC – Lisson (1)

HIGHLIGHTS: Naugatuck, Connecticut’s Pat Dean went 5 1/3 innings to get his first win of the season. He gave up two runs on only three hits and a walk, and struck out seven. Last season Dean had only one game of seven out more K’s, when he whiffed eight in a July game against Reading… Daniel Ortiz and former Red Sox farmhand Tony Thomas both went 3-for-4 to lead the Rock Cats 13 hit attack. Thomas drove in two and scored twice.


New Hampshire – 6

Trenton – 0

WP: Sanchez (1-0)

LP: Mitchell (0-1)

HIGHLIGHTS: Blue Jays top prospect Aaron Sanchez was dominant in his first Double-A start. The 21-year-old righty cruised through five innings, using up just 67 pitches, striking out five in the process. He allowed just one hit and two walks…Four Fisher Cat batters had two hits on the night, with Kenny Wilson (2-for-3) collecting a team-high 3 RBIs from the leadoff spot…Nashua native Kevin Nolan went 2-for-4 with an RBI, run and stolen base.
