Games Times and Pitchers for 5/21/12

21 May

In New Britain, Steve Hirschfeld welcomes the BMets to town for a four-game set. It will be Hirschfeld’s ninth start of the year as he looks to get back on the winning track after picking up an “L” in four of his last five outings. He faced the BMets back on May 9th and was solid in a no decision effort where he tossed 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits and a walk, with 6 strikeouts.

The Sea Dogs will make the short trek to Manchester to face off against the Fisher Cats for four games. Red Sox top pitching prospect Anthony Ranaudo gets his second start of the season. Against Reading last Tuesday the 6’7” righty lasted 4 innings and gave up 4 runs on 3 walks and 4 hits, two of which were home runs. Brett Cecil will counter for New Hampshire coming off his strongest outing of the year. In the first game of a double header against New Britain last Wednesday he threw 5 scoreless innings, allowing only 2 hits and a walk.

Pawtucket will look to halt a four-game slide with Doug Mathis on the hill in Norfolk. Mathis is 1-1 with a 5.68 ERA in four road starts this season. Kevin Youkilis is slated to play third base in what will be his last rehab game before he rejoins the Red Sox, leaving PawSox fans wondering if the great Will Middlebrooks will be making a return trip back to Pawtucket so that he can play every day.
