Marquis to start for Rock Cats on Saturday

6 Apr

New Britain has announced that former Major League All-Star pitcher Jason Marquis will be starting for the Rock Cats in tomorrow’s game against Richmond.

Marquis, who has 12 years of big league service under his belt, signed with the Twins in the offseason as a free agent. This will be his seventh organization, most recent of which was the Washington Nationals in 2011 when he missed the final two months of the season with bone chips in his right elbow.

Marquis has a lifetime record of 104-98 with a 4.55 ERA in the Majors, and won 11 or more games over a six year span from 2004-2009. He won a World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2006 and made his only All-Star appearance in 2009 as a member of the Colorado Rockies.

This will be the first time in his career that he will be playing with an American League club.

Saturday’s game is a 1:35 p.m. start time at New Britain Stadium and tickets are still available.
