HIGHLIGHTS: The PawSox jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, but the IronPigs came right back to tie in the third and rode Cameron Rupp’s two-run, sixth inning homer – his third of the season – to the win. The team’s split the opening four-game set…Ryan Lavarnway got his first start at catcher this season. He had a passed ball and went 0-for-3 batting in the third spot in the lineup. Lavarnway is now 0-for-14 to start the season…Christian Vazquez went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored as a the DH. Three of his five hits this season have been doubles…Garin Cecchini went 1-for-3 and has hit safely in all four games. He drove in a run, scored and drew a walk as well.

HIGHLIGHTS: Reading scored four times in the bottom of the second and the Sea Dogs were unable to scrape their way back into this one as the teams split their opening series. In his first Double-A start, Mike Augliera allowed eight hits and those four runs, in picking up the loss…Mookie Betts and Deven Marrero both went 1-for-4 with a single at the top of the order. Marrero picked up an RBI in the third inning.

ADVANCED A

Myrtle Beach – 0

LP: Wolff (0-1)
S: Younginer (1)
HIGHLIGHTS: Make it four straight to start the season for Salem, and 15 straight dating back to last season. Starter Corey Littrell struck out eight over 4 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and three walks before leaving a scoreless game…Reliever Simon Mercedes K’d four in 3 1/3 inning, picking up the win, and Madison Younginer worked a scoreless ninth for his third career save…Matt Gedman (1-for-4, double) scored from third on a wild pitch in the fifth inning for the only run that the Salem Sox would need. They would score twice more in the seventh.

WP: Chavez (1-0)
LP: Stankiewicz (0-1)
S: Sanchez (2)
HR: GRE – Mager (1), Roberson (1). KAN – Hayes (1), Engel (1), Michaelczewski (1).
HIGHLIGHTS: The balls were flying out of the park in this one as the Intimidators evened up the series behind a 13 hit performance. Greenville also had 13 hits, but could not keep pace with the runs on this night…2013 second-rounder Teddy Stankiewicz suffered through the worst outing of his young career, allowing five runs on eight hits and a walk. He also served up two home runs, one more than he had in 19 2/3 innings with Lowell last season…Greenville reliever Mike Adams pulled off the rare four strikeout inning in the eighth after allowing his first victim to reach first on a strike-three wild pitch…Tim Roberson (3-for-5, HR, RBI, 2 runs) and Kevin Mager (2-for-4, HR, BB, RBI, run) led the Drive offense from the middle of the lineup.

NEW ENGLAND BASED TEAMS

AA
Richmond – 8
New Britain – 2
WP: Crick (1-0)
LP: Summers (0-1)
HIGHLIGHTS: Richmond put this one away early with runs in the second, third and fourth innings. The Rock Cats dropped two straight after winning their first two of the year against the Flying Squirrels…Catcher Kyle Knudson, the only bright spot on the day for New Britain, went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

New Hampshire – 5
Trenton – 11
WP: De La Cruz (1-0)
LP: Copeland (0-1)
HR: TRE – Sanchez (1), Segedin (1)
HIGHLIGHTS: The Fisher Cats looked comfortable in the top half of the fourth inning after taking a 3-0 lead on the Thunder. Then the skies shook and Trenton struck for all 11 of their runs in the bottom half of the inning, splitting the four game opening series behind Yankees top prospect Gary Sanchez’s two-out grand slam…The Fisher Cats had only five hits in the game and Ryan Schimpf (1-for-3) collected two RBIs and scored twice.
